The meaning of A Venture.

You know the song "A Venture" by Yes. Help me figure out what the hell is going on.

There is no long explanation. I've been listening to this song for decades and enjoyed it without too much thought.

For some reason, tonight, I need to know what it means. I have my own thoughts, but I have not found them satisfactory.

I sort of realize that there can be zero to many reasons for a song to be the way it is. That said, give me your best interpretations. I've scoured the internet and have been unsatisfied.

You could do no worse.

My crappy input is that it goes right along with Long Distance Runaround, released later that same year (1971) by Yes.
Yes co-founder Jon Anderson wrote the lyrics to this song while allegedly remembering his encounters with religious hypocrisy and competition he experienced in attending church regularly as a youth in northern England. "Long time / waiting to feel the sound" was a sentiment toward wanting to see a real, compassionate, non-threatening example of godliness.
Seems to be in the same vein of not being repressed and closed up. The man in the story seems to be a wealthy man who had the finer things in life and pretty much just reveled in drinking and not doing anything.

And then at the end of his life he realizes life is better when it is lived. When you travel, experience things, go places, get hurt, struggle, recover, see the world. Rather than just accumulating wealth, staying comfortable in one place, and insulating yourself from the world.

In these songs the message is to go live life. Don't look for life or meaning in religion, don't look for life or meaning in drinking and wealth that allows you to be insulated from others.
