The Greek equivalent of a drink called a John Doe?

Is there any familial or other relationship between Ioannis Metaxas (the Greek dictator) and the maker of Metaxa, a Greek liquor used in sidecars?

(Not looking for speculative answers, please. Thanks.)

Best answer: According to this web site set up by a descendant, Ioannis Metaxas's family had had the Metaxas name since at least the 1600's.

According to this book review, the Metaxas family that created the liquor assumed the surname after emmigration and a career change in the 1800's.
