Help me name two adorable sister kitties!

My friend is adopting two former stray sister kitties. Here are the precious little ones.

Some helpful details:
  • She'd like names that go together, either by cultural association, first letter, rhyming, or historical relevance.
  • So far, she likes these names: Zooey (NOTE: she just lost a cat named Franny, so that is off the table), Matilda, Madeline.
  • Cooler/hipper/modern names are preferred.
TV shows she likes:
  • True Blood
  • Mad Men
  • Parks and Recreation

Bands she likes:
  • Mountain Goats
  • Bright Eyes
  • Bon Iver
  • St. Vincent
  • Okkervil River
  • Rap, esp. Nicki Minaj
Books/authors:
  • Salinger
  • Murakami
  • Harry Potter series
  • Hunger Games
  • DFW
The names don't have to include any of the above cultural references, but might give you an idea of directions to head in.

With Harry Potter on the list the first thing that came to mind was Parvati and Padma (twin sisters in the series).

I'm trying to go by your directions, but looking at them, I can only think 'Flip' and 'Flop'.

My parents had sister cocker spaniels when they first got married. One of the name choices they batted around was Spic and Span. I've always thought that was funny.

Also:

Sugar and Spice

Autumn and Summer

The more I think about it, I actually really like Autumn and Summer.

A bit retro-hip, perhaps: Mirabelle and Eleanor, the twins from Mad Men's Long Weekend.

Best answer: Oh, I have a Matilda. You could do Matilda & Mara, for the actor, or Matilda and Miss Jenny Honey (but they are sisters, so maybe not), or Matilda and Lavender.

We named our two sister kitties Phobos and Deimos, after the moons of Mars. The moons, in turn, were named after the Greek gods of fear and dread.

If you want astronomical, classical, and scary sounding names, you can borrow these.

A few Murakami possibilities:

Malta and Creta (actual sisters from The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle)
Naoko and Midori (Norwegian Wood - though if [spoiler-ish!] it's bad luck to name a cat after an ill-fated character, maybe Reiko and Midori?)
The Chubby Girl and the Librarian :) (Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World)

My dad's goats are Paris and Nicole, which seems to amuse everyone.

If she likes Zooey, how about Zooey and Deschanel?

or Flavor and Flav
or Hova and Beyonce
or Big Boi and Andre 3000

Charlotte and Emily (Bronte -- your friend seems to have a flair for gothic-influenced fiction)

Fleur and Gabrielle (Delacour)

Primrose and Rue (Katniss is just too obvious.)

Old-school rap here: Salt and Pepa.

I always see "Community" listed along with "Parks and Rec" in most TV blogs, so how about Britta and Shirley?

Or if you like Shirley - Laverne and Shirley?

Buffy and Willow?
