What was produced at the factory at the beginning of Michelangelo Antonioni's Red Desert?

The factory was located in Ravenna, apparently. Here are four frames.

Wikipedia identifies it as a petrochemical plant.

Best answer: Check out the tenth photo on this page, which according to the caption is "The Anic Ravenna methane cracking plant, 1960s." A Google Image search for anic ravenna pulls a lot of similar images.
