ISO web-based task management system

I'm currently accepting any recommendations for a simple, lightweight, web-based task management system. I do not need full project management capabilities, but I would like the ability to track time spent. In lieu of finding a suitable system, I would also solicit any web UI designers to work with me to build the aforementioned application (if a suitable one does not exist) and release it as open source.
Basecamp blows frickin' goats. Chrish, I'm working on one at the moment ... I'd welcome your input if you'd like to email me at the email in my profile.

Basecamp doesn't look all that great to me, either, but the lightweight task management of Basecamp subcomponent Ta-Da List might fit the bill as a sort of "Basecamp without all the crap."

I asked a similar question last week for what it's worth. Some more answers in there.

You may want to check out Backpack if you think Basecamp is too much for what you need.

Another vote here for Backpack. It's not near the bear that Basecamp is and would do much of what you described.

I've been trying out a variety of tools (web-based and otherwise) for personal and business task management recently and haven't found anything to fill the bill.
However, a friend recently recommended Tasks to me. I haven't had an opportunity to test it, but the demo looks great.
