I just bought an IBM Correcting Selectric 3 typewriter. I am obsessed. I just can't find the original 1980 selling price. Does anyone know?

Best answer: This ad from 1981 indicates that the purchase price of an IBM Selectric amortized over a 7-year service life works out to $0.41/day, or about $1,050.

you do know you can get replacement/other font balls, right? IIRC, there's like 30 different ones...

Response by poster: Right, I bought this one from a lawyer, so of course it came with courier.

According to this inflation calculator, $1050 in 1980 dollars is $3500 today. Think how much business machine you could buy today for $3500.
