Garbled Chrome Text, help

Chrome Browser and Mac: I have a text problem.

It is garbled in email, on websites. I have tried fiddling with the encoding, and if I view the "message text garbled?" dropdown, the emails are readable, but I can't get it to be permanently corrected in my email, no matter what encoding I pick. Any suggestions? I am using 10.7.4.

The Chrome help forums have been useless, so far...

Have you tried clearing your Mac's font cache?

This exact same thing has been happening to me. It even happens on the preview screen thing on Safari. It is not happening on Firefox, which is what I have been using to avoid the whole thing. I notice that sometimes increase or decreasing the font size sometimes helps the symbol text issue but it has to be done for each page. I am very curious to know what's behind this as well.

Yeah, this is definitely a font cache problem. It's not specifically a Chrome issue, it's a system-wide issue that will show up in any application using WebKit (like Safari, etc). Firefox has its own rendering engine so it won't have the same issue. You can reset the font caches really easily, either with a free utility like Font Nuke or (if you're OK with using the Terminal) by entering the proper command for your particular version of OS X.

chuke, I took bcwinters' advice and used Font Nuke and the problem has been resolved.

I'm glad it helped! I hope Chuke comes back so we can get a resolution.
