Help me remember which movie this was from!

I'm trying to remember a film, a small part of which has surfaced in my mind...
... I believe it was a black comedy. The part in question involves a guy who I think was a mafia boss or someone similarly high up and feared, who comes to believe that he needs an organ transplant (heart, I think) to live.
From memory, they obtain a heart from somewhere, he threatens the doctor that he has to have this transplant, even though the doctor says that the guy is fine.
So, they get him into the theatre, open him up, and realise the replacement heart is either dead or from the wrong species or something, and just sew him back up. From then on, the guy is happy, convinced he has a new heart.
I cannot remember where I saw this, and it's driving me crazy. I also fear that it's going to be some terrible and crappy film I hate. Anyone?

I seem to remember an interesting-looking trailer (black humor) with Christopher Walken as a mobster in a hospital, and a subplot about a transplant of some kind. It was one of those "hey, wow, that looks like fun" cause, hey, Chris Walken, but the name didn't stick. Can't even place the other actors. But your description rings a bell. Unfortunately, "Christopher Walken transplant" gets me nowhere. IMDB is no help, either. Maybe I'm on crack? Anyway, hope that helps jog your memory. I apologize in advance for any wastes of time. :)

It's not Playing God, though that's a very good guess. The mob boss was never the recipient of medical attention in that movie. And there were no transplants. Similarly, Dirty Pretty Things comes close (it concerns criminals and transplants), but isn't it.
I feel like I should know this one but I just can't think of what it would be.

How old is it? Early 80s? Late 90s?

Response by poster: I can't remember when it was from...
Also, I have seen Search and Destroy (called The Four Rules in Australia) but it wasn't that.
I know that this is going to drive me crazy now. I am sure it was a film, but maybe TV. I have also been known to have visual memories of things I have read, so who knows. SIGH.

But soon realized it didn't fit your description.
I tried google, the only ones that come up are the one above, and "Return To Me" a movie starring Minnie Driver and David Duchovny.
I'm stumped. Do you remember anything about the actor's appearance?
