Help me find that non-fiction piece about getting a haircut in China.

It was probably at least ten years ago that I read (and reread, and reread) a non-fiction piece about getting a haircut and accompanying head massage in China. It was incredibly detailed and ASMR-inducing. I believe it was in a book of women's travel writing. Sound familiar? I want to read it again!

This doesn't sound like the same piece, but here is an article from Harper's from 1996 about getting a haircut in North Korea.

Response by poster: No, it's in English, and it's written by an American visitor to China.

Response by poster: Unfortunately no -- the one I'm looking for is longer and more detailed.

Sounds like it could be an excerpted from Jan Wong's Red China Blues, maybe
