The Best Tiger Woods Game

Is there a Tiger Woods video game that is considered the hallmark of the series for single player? Is there one that's considered a failure? Or is the newest one always the best one? I'm looking specifically for Xbox 360 or Wii.

I quit buying them after they introduced the ability to control the ball while in flight, it completely ruined the game. I believe the current iteration has this feature removed.

The in flight control definitely doesn't make anything easy. In '11 you get a certain amount of "focus" - adding power to your swing, increasing your accuracy, putting spin on the ball, or using a putt preview all use up your focus, and they're expensive. I played the hell out of 07 and 08 but didn't play again until 11, and it seemed exponentially harder. But eventually I started getting into it. I do feel that the makers kind of expect you to have played all the previous versions so they just keep upping the ante. It's the same with Golden Tee from year to year. But I think for a first-timer, any year is going to be extra hard until you learn the system and then it's just going to be hard. I'd say just get the newest version with all the newest graphics and bells/whistles you can and enjoy it as much as possible because before you know it the bastards have made a new one. Can't speak for the newest but 11 lets you upload your own face onto your golfer, has very realistic weather, etc. It's really good once you stop cussing it. I still love 08 bit that's just because I played it so much, don't think it's any more relevant beyond that. In three years I'll probably sorely miss 11.

Response by poster: i played the heck out of 2005 on the game cube (50+ hours, i think) but haven't touched more than a demo since then. i wish there were reviews that listed all the years with pros and cons for each.

Game Informer search reveals this. Not quite as definitive as I think you'd like, but at least some Pros/Cons in there (not all for your desired platforms, but you'll get the general idea).
