Beachbum and Beachcomber are taken - what's left?

Help me find a tiki name starting with B (that is not depressing).

I have a good friend who is a major cocktail aficionado, and who gets the red carpet treatment, appropriately, at a number of NYC's best tiki bars. Various barstaff and proprietors have opined that the man needs his own tiki name (like Trader Vic, Beachbum Berry or Don The Beachcomber).

We have been thinking of various b-name options, and he seems to want a b-name (unless I suppose we can come up with some other word that is so awesome as to override this objection.) The problem is, the b-words are depressing (especially as the Beachbum has stolen the best example!). They include things like: bilgepump, barnacle, and the neutral but not exciting boatswain. We've all looked into pirate terms, navy terms, general nautical terms, fishing, surfing - even glossaries of Hawaiian, Maori, and Samoan, to no avail.

Does anyone have a lead, either on a name or a resource? . . . Bueller? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

beachstormer? (it's what popped into my head right off.)

might be better if we had a first name to work with.

Boardwalk (yes, not so islandy, but a nod to the Northeast). Beachwrack (possibly too depressing, but I think beachwrack is fascinating). Beach glass.

Well, this site says Ben translates to Peni.

Peni Ben would be calling him "Ben Ben" which is kind of funny.

(There's absolutely nothing depressing about Bilge Pump). Jesus! Get a load of that drumming!

My own actual first name is Ben. If I had a tiki name, and it started with B, I would love Barracuda Ben. Boardwalk Ben if I wanted to be a little more laid-back.

Benihana! There is apparently a tiki connection as well.

I feel your friend's pain. We share a first name, and a love of tiki drinks, and I've never been able to come up with a great name.

Ben the Rambler.
Breaker Ben.
Vagabond Ben.

The soft sound at the end of Ben makes it hard to work with as a last part of a title. It just sorta fades off. Vic works so will because of the hard K sound.

So I recommend going for the "Ben the X" formulation.

I love "Bikini Ben" and "Boardshorts Ben" and "Bimini Ben" the most so far.

"Binnacle Ben" might be good, but people would probably misremember it as "Barnacle Ben." Similarly, "Bowspirit Ben" would look good on paper, but be hard for people who weren't familiar with the pronunciation.

"Boom-Boom Ben"?

Saladin's suggestion for "Bayside Ben" is growing on me and if you're friend doesn't take it I just might.

Response by poster: I have also found the following, although potentially less useful for tiki - I kind of like "Bourasque" though: http://phrontistery.info/b.html

@bswinburn - I asked, and you are welcome to Bayside if you want it! I like it - it sounds very chill.

From Slap*Happy's link, I'm liking Barrelman Ben.

It's a sailor assigned to the crow's nest, but I'm thinking in this day and age it also brings to mind someone lugging a barrel of rum around.

Bayside is top notch. I used to have a friend who's nickname was Bayside because he knew an inordinate amount of Saved By the Bell trivia. I don't even think it needs to be attached to a 'real' name; just 'Bayside'. Imagine strolling into a bar and the bartenders shout out 'Bayside' instead of 'Norm'. Classic.

Oh! If there's a favourite or signature rum that starts with B, he could be:

Bacardi Ben
Black Tot Ben
Barbancourt Ben
Blackstrap Ben
Ron Del Barrilito Ben

or if he has a favourite "B" Tiki Drink:

Blowlamp Ben

Blue Heaven Ben
Blue Hawaii Ben
Boo Loo Ben
