Downtown Las Vegas (Fremont Street) buffet dining suggestions?

I will be staying in downtown Vegas tomorrow (Monday) night on a business trip. Most dining guides / questions (such as previously) are Strip-centric, as have been suggestions from family and friends.

Is it worth it to bite the bullet and take a taxi to some place on the Strip, or is there a hidden gem within easy walking distance I should consider? My default is probably the buffet at the Golden Nugget (the reviews seem slightly underwhelming), but I am open to suggestions.

Main Street Garden Court Buffet is quite decent as downtown buffets go, and they have a nice "international" thing with dishes from various cultures and the dining room is very pretty (for a casino!)

I know you're looking for something downtown, but if you do decide to go to the strip, make it worth your while and go to the Wicked Spoon in The Cosmopolitan hotel. We ate their last night and it was, hands down, the best buffet I've ever been to. So much so that we're going back tonight before we head home tomorrow. It's on the expensive end, but if you're going for quality, this is it. Check out the Yelp reviews for more details.

I hear for around $30 you can get a buffet ticket for the Bellagio. They serve Beef Wellington, which is insane!

To answer your question: Yes, it is completely worth it to take a taxi to "The Strip" and partake of their legendary gustatory status. I haven't been there in a few years, but I seem to remember that there is a less expensive bus that goes from Downtown Vegas to the strip, but for the life of me I can't remember a name or location.

Las Vegas jumped on the foodie bandwagon early, and with both feet. My advice? Go to the Bellagio, eat at a fantastic buffet, and pick your teeth/enjoy a after dinner cocktail and peruse their fantastic art collection.

Response by poster: Thanks for the advice, Hive Mind. My flight wound up getting delayed so I didn't make it into my downtown hotel until 10pm local time. Feeling too tired for much else, I wound up getting a mediocre (non-buffet) meal in the hotel I was staying in, rather than venturing further.

That was a mistake, since it's not like I got a lot of rest. The "Fremont Street Experience" was playing LOUDLY outside my window, with the KISS tribute band outside literally shaking the dresser on the hour when the big light show ran. The last run of that light show was 1:00 am, after which I finally was able to fall asleep. Ah, well. Live and learn.
