I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly...

What are good movies to watch while drinking a fine scotch?

Mind you, I'm not asking about movies where the subject matter is drinking (i.e.: Cocktail). Nor movies about alcohol (i.e.: prohibition era stories).

More along the lines of "a martini is good to sip while watching a movie starring Katherine Hepburn," or "Absinthe is preferable while watching a Cronenberg film."

Except, you know, for scotch. Complex, multi-layered? Let me know...

The original Thomas Crown Affair, especially during the chess match.

I don't know about GOOD Scotch, but the Big Sleep, and The Long Goodbye would both go nicely with a Rye.

How about Casablanca? Or does Humphrey Bogart just equal Rye?

Someone to Watch Over Me. Weepy-ish, but good cop stuff too. I wouldn't drink anything but very, very expensive scotch in that apartment.

Huh. Originally I felt like this was a ridiculous question with no answer, but the more I got to thinking about it, the more I like the idea of drink/media pairings. I recommend slow, sad, cerebral films, maybe with a leaning towards foreign films and older movies.

In the Mood for Love
Spirited Away
Apocalypse Now

If you're ever in a red wine mood, I'd suggest 2001: A Space Odyssey. Beer? Go for The Seventh Seal. Cheap vodka pairs well with The Great Mouse Detective. Cisco fortified wine (and its ilk) complement the Matrix series nicely.

Pretty much any Connery Bond movie except "You Only Live Twice."

Also, "Wall Street." Maybe "Limitless," but maybe that's pushing it.
