Ads on a Verizon dumbphone?

I just upgraded to a Pantech Jest 2 from Verizon (prevoiusly had the Jest) and every couple of days I get banner ads on my home screen. My old phone never did this. Am I purse dialing into web access by mistake, or are these sudden ads common/acceptable all of a sudden?

Is it possible that you have some sort of animated background that has ads built into it?

I'm not finding much information on that phone at all. But, people do mention animated backgrounds.

And, no, ads on the homescreen of your phone is not common or acceptable in the first world.
