Can you import Dropbox files into iMovie? Going a little crazy here...

I'm working on a group film project. Clips have been filmed by another member and uploaded to Dropbox. I cannot get the files into iMovie. Is there a way to do it or is it impossible?

Can you copy them to your hard drive as an intermediate step, or does that not work either?

Uh... do you have Dropbox installed? Is the shared folder accessible by your Dropbox? If so, you just have to navigate to where Dropbox is on your computer from within iMovie.

If not, you must install Dropbox, log in, and make sure that folder is accessible to you. Dropbox folders are just folders.

If you can't install Dropbox, log in from the Web interface and manually download the file. That's your only other option.

Response by poster: I'm on a MacBook. Thanks for the insights.

I'm hoping it's because I'm signed in as my group partner on her Dropbox account (she uploaded the files). I guess i need to share it with my account so I can access the files from the application installed on my computer.

I guess I'm a little spacey..this is one of those class projects where none of the other members seems to wanna do much work and my rage is obscuring my mental faculties perhaps :P Thanks for humoring me.

Huh, I first read the question as "iMovie isn't recognizing these files," but it's more about getting the files transferred.

First: Have you considered using a flash drive?

If I understand you correctly, she's logged onto the web site in your browser - if so, you can go to Dropbox the web site, click down into the appropriate folder, then click the "Share" icon at the top right - it has a rainbow on it - & put in your email address. You'll get an email to ask if you want this invitation, & if you accept, Dropbox (the app) will download the folder to your computer.

Video can take a really long time to transfer across the network. I worry that she hasn't actually uploaded it yet, and that she can check the Dropbox icon on her computer for spinning arrows (still syncing) or a checkbox (synced). If it's still syncing, hovering over the icon should say how much longer it will take to sync. If it's not done syncing, then using a flash drive is likely going to be faster.

Response by poster: Thanks, Pronoiac! We ended up USB-ing it but that's good to know for the future
