Can you give me recommendations for portable, yet powerful speakers for a laptop? Audio quality not necessarily the #1 priority.

The reason audio quality is not #1 priority is that the majority of audio being played through them is the human voice (i.e. people talking). That doesn't mean they have to be cheap crap, but durability, size and ease of use are high priority.

Best answer: The Jawbone Jambox is loud as hell and the sound's not bad at all.

Avoid AudioEngines. Mine cut out every 20 minutes.

Best answer: I love my Jambox. The rechargeable battery lasts for ages and it's easy to Bluetooth to my phone or laptop if you dont want to use cable. Plus it can act as a speakerphone.

I have this guy from Logitech. It's very convenient, as it hooks on to the back of your screen. Definitely powerful sound and incredibly portable -- it comes with a little sack to carry it in as well.

This speaker is pretty good, especially for the price.

The Roland Mobile Cube is my recommendation. I love this little amp.
