Help me find a specific Children's TV show.

Tracking down a pre-2000 children's TV show with a female presenter in a fairy tale style magician's house.

Back in 2000 or 2001 while flipping through late night TV I remember stumbling upon a children's TV show with a female presenter. I thought the show was on PBS, but I contacted my local station and they didn't have any ideas. The presenter was an apprentice or a friend of a wizard or magician. For some reason I remember it being a math magician, but Google doesn't return anything for that. The live action segments took place inside a large house set, like a thatched roof Fairy Tale house. I can't remember if they cut to cartoons or not. There might have been a door on the upper right side of the set, ala Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood. It's been 12 years so some of these details could be wrong. I looked through the Wikipedia list of Children's TV series, but nothing popped out as having wizards or magicians.

Different period, but have you considered that it might be a repeat of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre? No math wizards, but it's the only female-hosted kids show with magic stuff I can think of...

Maybe it was a rerun of Eureeka's Castle?

I remember on FOX's afternoon weekday kids block (around mid 90s) there was a show with a live-action female host. Maybe Fox Clubhouse?

Best answer: I believe the show you are thinking of is Mathica's Mathshop.

Here's the description of episode 1:
Mathica is an elf searching for work as a helper, but in the land of fairy-tales when Mathica lives, work is very hard to find. She ends up answering a wanted ad for a job as an assistant to a Mathemagician. To get the job, she must win a mind game against the witch famed for her poisoned apples.
I'm glad you mentioned it, because for years, I have been asking people whether they remember a show called Mathica, about a fairy or elf who solves the problems of fairy tale characters using mathematics. Up until now, nobody has been familiar with it, but your description sounds like what I recall.

There are very poor-quality videos on YouTube, and some other ones I haven't been able to view, so I can't confirm 100%, but I'm pretty darn sure this is what you mean.

Response by poster: Thanks, that has to be it! Here's a pretty good quality episode on Vimeo: Mathica's Math Shop - All Star Elf.
