Help me help wordpress find my transferred media...

I'm in the process of transferring my Wordpress blog to a new host. So far everything is working just fine, except the media library.
I copied /wp-content/uploads/* onto the new system. I see the folders and files on the new server via SFTP, but WP doesn't seem to notice them. Is there some sort of "cache refresh" trick? Do I actually have to manually go in and load all the individual images from the past year via the UI?
So they are not showing up in the media section of the admin? When you view source on a post with a missing image, does the URL of the image look right to you, or is it pointing to an old domain?

Response by poster: backwards guitar - I just viewed source, and that attachments are listed and the url given works (I click on it in the source viewer and it opens the image).
So it clearly has the link in the source code, and if I click on it, it brings me to the image, but it won't show when displaying, nor will the images show up in the media library itself.
------------
I should note that I transferred my domain as well so I can't easily re-import (I tried to do so, using the option to download attachments this time, but no luck - I have a feeling it's because the domain name is now pointing to my current host, so when it tries to download the attachments, it's looping back to itself).

Response by poster: Actually I take that back - On the newest entry, the images are missing when displayed on the page. However, an older entry is showing the image. I'm not sure if that one was set up as a "gallery" display, and the non-showing one is setup as a different type? I think there were different ways to display the images, IIRC, no?
Anyways, the HTML does NOT include the img tags for the posts that are missing the images.

This happened to me.
The reason is instead of migrating the DB, i created a new one from scratch, and all the links posts<>media were screwed up.
I had to install a plugin (sorry i don't remember, now it's deleted it - look for "media library server") the problem is, it will add them all to the media library (Avoiding to reupload everything) but you still have to manually associate the pictures to the posts (big pain)>

To have WordPress "remember" you need to be using WordPress to do the import/export.
If you didn't, then no, WordPress doesn't automatically know that the old uploads are there.
You say "So it clearly has the link in the source code, and if I click on it, it brings me to the image, but it won't show when displaying, nor will the images show up in the media library itself." -- does that mean you have both sites running right now?

Response by poster: no - I transferred the domain to the new host, so the link ended up pointing to the current server. What befuddles me in that case is why one set of attachments is being shown on the current page, but others didn't.
It only seems to be in that particular post. Otherwise, the posts themselves are not displaying img code, and again - the images aren't in the media library.
I have a feeling I'm just going to have to end up going back and reuploading and attaching. Thanks for the info folks!

Response by poster: OK, this is weird, I just went to older posts and they ALL seem to have the correct images attached, it's just the most recent one. Weird. Maybe I missed copying over the data for that. I'll close this then.
