How to get my UMAX Powerlook 2100xl to work with Lion?.

Since I upgraded my Mac to Lion I had to find new drivers for it, so I grabbed Vuescan which seemed to be the only one that worked but apparently my computer is not recognizing the scanner, the drivers don't work. When I restart I get an error message that reads....
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/UMAXFireWireDriver.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

Obviously that's significant, but there's no update from the Vendor. Vuescan should work. Does anyone have any similar experience or solutions?
Thanks.

Have you tried contacting the guy who created Vuescan? I had a problem a couple of years ago with the software on Windows, sent him an email, and he promptly responded with a solution.

This could be a permissions error on the /System/Library/Extensions/UMAXFireWireDriver.kext bundle (this is the driver for the Umax 2100xl via firewire.) You can try the following two commands in the Terminal:

sudo chmod -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/UMAXFireWireDriver.kext
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

(that should be two commands, one on each line, each starting with "sudo") and reboot to let this take effect. If that doesn't work, I second dfriedman's suggestion; contact the author.
