I recall reading an auto-biographical story a few years ago about a guy in California who was arrested after being accused of beating his girlfriend. He wrote about how he always made sure to use his credit card and to look into surveillance cameras to establish his whereabouts if he were falsely accused in the future. If I recall, the police investigator also went out on a limb to help the guy when the girlfriend's story didn't really check out. Anybody recall this story? If I remember it correctly, he somehow cleared his name in a civil proceeding. I'd like to figure out how he forced the issue to clear his name.

Best answer: I think this is the story. Link goes to part 4, but you'll be able to find the rest.

Patrice O'Neal did a comedy bit about this exact thing. I did not know it was based on an actual event.
