Help me find a children's picture book from the 40's-60's involving a princess who raises a baby dragon.

Trying to find an old childrens' book involving a princess who finds a baby dragon.

I would assume it was from the 50's or 60's...maybe even as early as the 40's though I think that's unlikely. The colors used were very limited; I seem to remember mostly greens, reds, and blacks.

The plot, as far as I remember, involves a little princess (the littlest out of her many, many sisters) finding a baby dragon and sneaking it home to the castle. She sneaks it food, and it starts to grow and grow and grow. Finally it is so large its legs and tail are hanging out the castle windows. It turns out the dragon is preggers, and when the dragon babies are born (no word on how this dragon became pregnant, but that's beside the point) there is a baby dragon for each of the many princesses.

I remember that the princesses were drawn very simply. Little floor-length tunics and snug red hoods. I remember one of the last drawings was a scene of the castle, over-run with princesses and baby dragons playing with each other.

Any clue what this book is?

(Disclaimer: I asked this question before, back in 2005. After searching around and finding this thread, it appears I am OK in re-submitting it in that 7 years have passed and the site has grown (as hopefully has the pool of people who might know this book!)

The Ruby Princess and the baby dragon
Jahnna N. Malcolm ; illustrations by Neal McPheeters.
New York : Scholastic, c1998.
66 p. : ill. ; 20 cm.

It's probably too recent.

Or this one:
The Baby in the Bulrushes and the Kind Princess (Dragon Books) by Enid Blyton.

The details don't match up at all, but your description made me think of There's No Such Thing as a Dragon! (1975), mostly because of the visual of the dragon hanging out of the house

could it be one of the serendipity books?

Response by poster: No, definitely not a Serendipity book. This book was definitely written pre-1970, and most likely the 50's.

Just throwing some stuff out there from searches on "lost book" sites.

Could it be Artie and the Princess (c) 1947?
