looking for a solo birth vacation spot on week of the 15. I don't really travel a lot, other then business, and I'm not really sure where to start. also, if there's any options for super cheap (It really doesn't have to be exciting in the classical scene - just open to possibilities)

Where are you? And you want to give birth there?

Per the title, it's actually about a birthday vacation.

Vegas isn't a bad place to go solo. Especially if you don't like to gamble. It's cheap and there's always tons of things to do. If you want to be around other people you can, but you won't feel out of place just walking around by yourself.

I'm planning a solo trip out the in a few weeks just for the hell of it. I can get some work done at my hotel when I want, but have endless things to do when the mood strikes me.

The correct answer is Las Vegas.

Man, I read this as 'giving birth', too, before apologizing it to 'single berth'.

In any case, LastMinute is your friend for things like this. I used to use it as an effective destressing tool, back before I lived 100m from a beach full-time.

(Now I don't know what to do for a break. Hrm.)

rokusan, LastMinute may have changed when you weren't looking -- you have to have a destination in mind now. (I'm assuming you're still thinking that you only have to pick a location where you are and it'll suggest destinations; it doesn't do that any more.)

But, OP, there is a site LIKE rokusan was trying to recommend: Wanderfly. You enter you location, and can input the approximate length of vacation you want, approximate time you want to go and your budget, and it'll generate a bunch of suggestions, based on what it can find for flight and hotel deals to those locations; if any of them look good, you can then click through to "flight deals" and "hotel deals" so you can go ahead and book your trip. You can also sign up for a free account and start keeping a list of places you want to go to "someday".

You're right, Oh Mighty Queen of all Pants. My travels have been a lot less spontaneous the last year (The beach! It's right there!) so I didn't realize LastMinute dropped that functionality. Wanderfly looks great as a replacement, even if it's a bit flashy.

Anonymous (?!) poster: this is the way to live. Pack your bag, stuff your passport and credit card in your jeans pocket and just go wherever is cheap today. That way you're putting your fate in random hands, and that's the best way to relax. When it comes to mental breaks, planning is the devil.

Contra a couple of decent suggestions above, I'm anti-Vegas, (it creeps me out and makes me feel sorry for America), but if you're keen on reveling amid the misfortunes of others, there are almost always cheapo flights to economically ravaged places like Greece and Japan lately. Try Santorini. Or closer to the US, Mexico and Costa Rica are usually as cheap as tacos.

Reykjavik! Montreal!

Wait, where are you? Do you want warm weather? I like solo travel to cities, personally, as it's easier to get around a city by yourself. On the other hand, lying on the beach with a big bag full of books is not bad either. Or skiing.

New Orleans!

Istanbul!

I don't know why I just bothered to answer this question. What do you want to do?

Answer these questions so that you get some decent answers:

- Where do you live? How far from there are you willing to travel?
- What kind of vacation do you want? Relaxation or cultural exploration or adventure/sports based? - Do you care about weather - would you rather go somewhere hot or cold or does it not matter?
- How much are you willing to spend?
- Do you want to spend the week alone, or the spend the week meeting new people?

On the other hand, since this is anonymous (since when are vacation choices a private matter?), and there's an absence of information that will get you useful answers, perhaps the best course of action is to simply ask the mods to delete this question and give it second try.

Not to threadsit my own answer, but that's why that Wanderfly site may work for the OP -- s/he can input ALL of that information and more, and do a search and still get some decent results. You can even do a search limited to a specific STATE or COUNTRY and get more than one option.
