Help me move, for the second time this year!

I am accepting a job in Winston-Salem NC, and would like to find a nice place to rent, either an apartment or a rental house, while minimizing my commute in the northwestern quadrant of the city. Can anyone recommend a realtor or a good site that lists local rentals in this area?

Best answer: YDMV, but when I was looking for a place in North Jersey last year I used Hot Pads, Apartments.com, and Trulia successfully to find a place that was where I wanted and wasn't sketchy. After I found a place, I would use Google and a trip around the area to see what I wanted. I had friends I could crash with for a few weeks while I got set-up and had the luxury of looking while I was in the area. If you're out of the area, I would try looking at the crime reports from the police departments. Depending on the area, they can be fairly detailed and at least give you an idea of what places to stay out of. I used these sites since I was never really comfortable with finding a place to live on Craigslist.

Best answer: For search terms, you can use "Triad* homes for rent" or "Triad apartments for rent." This will get you websites in a specific area instead of just national ones which might be better. You may also want to look at the Winston-Salem Journal (local newspaper) or even the Greensboro News & Record.

*The Triad is the area that contains Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point.

If you want any additional info about the area, memail me, I was a Greensboro (that is very close to W-S) resident for most of my life.

Best answer: www.journalnow.com is the the Winston-Salem Journal. It should have real estate listings. The thing with Winston is that you can go from decent to skeevy within a block. Areas around Wake Forest are like that. The little burb areas such as Bethania. Pfafftown, Lewisville, and Tobaccoville are nice. If you see anything that you're leaning toward, drop me a memail too and I can let you know if its in a skeevy/non-skeevy area.
