Great gloves for cameraman?

I'd like to buy my favorite news cameraman some great gloves for Christmas. Something that will keep his hands warm on the 3:00 pm to midnight shift and won't get in the way. Any recommendations?

Norse Store's Staale gloves I swear by. Thick, comfy and wrapped in deer leather, definitely a 'keep for years' kinda item.

Admitted, here in LA, it doesn't get that cold, but most camera guys I know cut the fingers off their gloves.

Have you done a search for "texting gloves"? You'll find styles either without fingers or specially designed to work with touchscreen devices. Should be good for what you're looking for.

If serious coldness is a problem, you could include some glove liners like this, which have pockets on the back of the hand for hand warmers. They don't interfere with dexterity, and do a great job. I've seen some gloves with this pocket feature too.

Hatch gloves are good in the cold while providing dexterity. I prefer the "Specialist" line (the 430L in particular), but I've heard good things about the "Postal" line.

They're well made, and in the $20-$40 range. Depending on the model, they're decently water and wind-resistant.

They look like a few brands of neoprene ski gloves I've seen at REI, but are constructed far better.

You might look for fingerless gloves that convert to mittens. Try searching for "mitten gloves," convertible gloves" or "convertible mittens."

I can't speak for quality, but I'm thinking about getting a pair of these for my husband. It's been surprisingly difficult to find men's convertible gloves that have a button or magnetic catch on the mitten part to hold it out of the way. He has a pair currently with a velcro spot, and it just doesn't work that well; it catches on stuff when he's wearing the mittens and doesn't seem to actually hold it out of the way when he isn't.

That said, I have several pairs of this style of gloves myself, and they are completely awesome. They make taking photos in the cold weather much more fun.
