Skinny guy needs skinny suit

Help a Minneapolis hipster find an extra-slim cut, European-style suit.

I'm tall (6'3"), very fit, and generally aspire to a sort of mod look, pairing tight fitting jeans with a Euro-cut H & M sport/tux coat and a skinny tie. I'd like to replicate this aesthetic in a suit, preferably a three-piece, but I'm not sure where to look.

Ideally, I'd want something like this, but in black.

I've visited every Express in the metro, and none carry this style. They tell me it's only sold online, and, judging from the above link, it looks like it's sold out.

So, stylish male MeFites, where shall I look? Would it be a bad idea to get the somewhat baggier "Producer Suit" at Express and have it tailored? Or should I consider Men's Warehouse or Jos A Bank, again with the intention of getting things aggressively tailored?

Again, key elements here are modern fit, extra slim jacket and pants, with the jacket cut short in the European style. Pricewise, I'd like to keep the whole thing around $500. So designer is probably out of the question.

Any suggestions?

You want a suit from Ben Sherman. Not sure if they have their own store in Minneapolis, but Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack do carry their suits.

Stopping by to also say Ben Sherman. They don't seem to have suits on their US website, but you can get an idea here. My SO got a great mod-looking grey suit and skinny tie at their store in San Francisco.

If I were a guy I would shop at Ben Sherman ALL OF THE TIME.

Thomas Pink has some incredible, sleek British suits of the variety you seek, but they're a bit pricey. Honestly, I think you're going to have a bad result trying to get that smart Savile Row look from an American discount suit supplier. You'll have to pay a bit more or compromise somewhat on quality, fit and style.

And ebay may have some discounted highly-quality suits in your size for a lot less than retail.

For hipper suiting, try the modern fit Banana Republic suits. They've got a tailored fit as well that works well for taller dudes. The stores at the Mall of America and downtown at IDS have pretty good suiting selections. (They might still have some Mad Men suits, and I know there were a few three-piece options there.)

If you want to go to a specialty haberdasher, the only real game in town is Heimies in St. Paul. I've gotten two suits there, including a three-piece.

My husband looked all over for a similar suit and the one that suited his style best was from Zara. It was a very slim cut, European style three-button and it looks like they still do similar versions. And they're really affordable.

Yes, yes, 100 times yes: Heimies is the place to go for sure. I have a friend who has sworn by them for years. And, really, you should go there for the name alone.

OMG! I just remembered this: TopMan suits are soooo what you're looking for on the cheap.

Remember this 1960s revival look is going to date as late 2000s very badly (and in the UK/Europe already has, where these suits are on the sale racks at high street shops). If you're a hipster then you won't be able to wear this suit in a couple of years, so don't spend too much. If you can get to a H&M or Top Man then you'll be able to get a suit like this for $100.

If you're actually a mod then that's another matter, and spend away: Ben Sherman is probably the most easily available mod brand in the U.S. If you want to spend more then look at Paul Smith's very slim cuts, but that will be more than $500. Or get yourself to London.

Response by poster: Wow, brilliant suggestions. I'm particularly loving that Ben Sherman Camden Fit...so much so that I just got off the phone with the SoHo store, and they're sending one my way! $495! WooHoo!
