where should i take my girlfriend for her 30th b-day?

i live in nyc, have a car, but i'm relatively new to the area. Looking for some place not too much longer than a 3 hour drive...not too touristy or super expensive, just a nice place to go unwind, maybe do some hiking or swimming (or both). Don't want to go to the beach as the water isn't warm enough yet for swimming. Maybe a lake in the woods...something like that. We're trying to get to know the area so we'd like to find somewhere out of the way. All suggestions welcome. thanks!

Northwestern Connecticut. Plenty of what you're looking for. Avoid parts of Route 7, and that would mostly take care of the "not too touristy" part.

Check out Saranac Lake in upstate. The Point is an amazing lodge (but exorbitantly expensive) and The Wawbeek is another good one.

You can take a ferry up to Bear Mountain I think. Or drive up to Taconic State Park. Mind that Taconic Lake is actually man-made, and at the bottom rests an unused mine.

A nice bed and breakfast in Lake George? My family used to vacation there when we lived in PA and it's beautiful.
