What's the fastest way to cash a check in Hawaii?

What is the fastest way for me to deposit/cash a large check in Hawaii (hopefully in the next two days) considering that there are no branches of my bank in Hawaii and that my account isn't eligible for "mobile deposit" via my smartphone?
Should I just open a new bank account here and close it when I don't need it anymore? Or will that take just as long as mailing the check to my bank on the mainland? Other options?

FWIW, some banks will hold checks for a couple of days if you don't already have enough money in your account to cover it if it bounces. Unless you are depositing, in cash, the same amount you are depositing by check, opening a new account might not work.

Can you tell us who your bank is? Some banks have a deposit via atm feature.

If it is drawn on a local bank you can cash the check there, even if you don't have an account. They'll probably charge you $5 or so for the privilege though. Then you can get a cashiers check or money order and send that to your bank for deposit, keeping out however much cash you need to cover yourself until the money is in your account.

Response by poster: It's a payroll check. My home bank is Chase (for now).

How large is large?
Walmart will cash local paychacks checks up to about $2000 for three dollars.
