Trying to print a recipe IN a dl'ed template

I cannot figure out why printing recipe cards is so hard? I purchased the Avery 8386. to print 4x6 recipes for my box. Online, I found a random template for 4x6 recipe cards( I could not find any cool ones). Then I go and copy my recipe and go to paste it on the template and it doesn't paste *INTO* the template (on the lines would be my first choice), it pastes outside the boarders of the recipe card template. I'm hoping to create my new recipe box and print the recipes I use online right onto the cute card but maybe it is too perfect and easy. It is hilarious how difficult something so easy can be! Maybe I'm missing something super obvious but I have asked a bunch of people and....here I am! Help !

What program are you using? Are you using Avery's free DesignPro software or Word?

Also, what is the template you're using?

It could be the random template: it's locked, the rules are locked, the layer is locked or there are some invisible characters that are interfering with pasting within the borders. Have you tried downloading another "un-cool" template to see if you have the same problem?

Here are some templates from Avery for recipe cards. Where it says "Compatible Products" find one that lists 8386 (most of the ones on the front page have it). See if it works pasting into one of those templates?

Okay so I downloaded a few (it requires an email the first time, but it doesn't send any confirmation stuff, I used a disposable email) and it looks like the problem is that Avery essentially just made some pictures, sized them to the right proportions, pasted them into a Word Document, and then declared it A TEMPLATE. Those are more intended to be printed and then hand-written on.

It won't be the easiest way to do it, but if you only have a few recipes for now to print, you can go to Insert>Text Box and set the box's background to No Fill and No Outline. You'll then have to finagle with it some to line up what your typing with the lines from the picture though. It might end up being more trouble than it's worth..

Microsoft Office Publisher would work for this for this. You can set up the page layout to match the exact dimensions of your card and go to town. In addition, companies like Avery send all of their possible sheet sizes and dimensions in so that you can choose their specific blank page sizes during the initial page setup. You are basically describing the exact sort of scenario that the product was developed for.

Which brings me to my disclaimer ... I am a software developer and pub is one of the products I develop.

We also have recipe card templates. Memail me if you need any help.

You may need to paste as plaintext, not as formatted text. In Word this is accomplished through the "paste special" dialog, found in the Edit menu.

Do you have Word? Have you searched their template directory?

Here is a list of recipe card templates that can be downloaded and used with MS Word.

I haven't tried any of these, but I often download calendar templates through the microsoft website and haven't had a problem. Don't know if any of them are cute enough for you, but they should solve the problem of Avery's non-template "templates."

Oh...if you want a cute template, you can buy them on Etsy. People sell printable recipe cards that are a PDF and make them editable so you can type on the line. Try searching for printable and editable cards like this one - http://www.etsy.com/listing/62007870/

The downside is that you may have to cut them out by hand. HTH!
