What are the dimensions of an offshore oil rig?

What are the dimensions of an offshore oil rig -- length, width, height? Since they vary in size, a range would be fine. The info needs to come from a specific source / document. I have had no success with Google. (Asking for a non-Mefite friend.) Thanks!

Where? What kind of rig? You're question is as broad as "what are the dimensions of am American car?"

I'm assuming you mean a fixed platform, but there are many rigs in the sea....

I'm the non-Mefite friend (just joined and therefore can't originate a question). Fixed platform is good, but I'm open to other types. Basically I'm doing some work for an offshore wave energy client, and they want to compare the size of their wave farms with offshore oil platforms. So we're hoping to get a range of sizes on offshore oil platforms. Thanks!

Best answer: Transocean has a searchable list of their rigs here. You can also find lists of their rigs by rig type, water depth, and location.

Best answer: The Transocean fleet sorted by type based on the follow up, is probably the best place to start.

This rig locator for the North Sea provides dimensions for a lot of the rigs.

Best answer: (And looking at the Transocean site, the dimensions on the site I linked are listed in feet.)

I would contact the IADC International Association of Drilling Contractors and ask them for guidance. Here is a link to their contact page.

Best answer: Thanks everyone! Very helpful! More answers are welcome, but these are already quite useful. Much appreciated!

If you're looking for comparisons, remember that different rig types are suited for different water depths from swamp barges all the way up to ultra-deepwater drillships. If your wave farm is going to be on the coastal shelf, you may want to compare against a jack-up instead of a big platform like Ekofisk.
