Clown Animated Short From the 90's...what was it?

My Google-fu is failing me. Back in probably the early 90's, there was a Spike & Mike's Animation Festival. One of the animated shorts was this one cartoon about the adventures of a kid with a bunch of clowns, except the clowns all had machine guns. They invade a castle or something and ride up in an elevator, and this quintessential elevator music song plays (for those of you that watch the tv show Castle, that same song (I think) was in the last episode when they were in an elevator, which triggered this memory). Anyway, what was the name of that cartoon?

Best answer: Randy, the killer clown - and his goon squad.

You're thinking of A Story, directed by Andrew Stanton, now at Pixar.

The elevator song is Herb Alpert

A sidenote, I loved Spike & Mike back in the day and have vague memories of this one (too much imbibing at college) but the elevator music from the Castle episode was a Muzak-ish version of The Girl from Ipanema.

Yeah, without even being familiar with anything you're referring to, I can confidently say that the "quintessential elevator music" you heard was almost certainly The Girl From Ipanema.

Response by poster: You guys are awesome! Yes, "A Story" is definitely it! I spent so much time on this but you guys came through. Now if I could only find a copy of it...

It was on this compilation (on VHS), but I've never been able to find it online (or even on DVD).
