I have a traditional chinese thermos like this one with a wooden stopper. How do I get the smell out? My water tastes like wood.

Best answer: Back in the old days... a square of wax paper over the opening before inserting the cork worked.

Response by poster: indeed! I went all newfangled and modern (Progress, as they say here in China) and used plastic wrap. Thanks!

I use a sandwich bag over the stopper or Saran Wrap. Cheese cloth will also help. Or...you can use a rubber stopper!

Is it wood or cork? Would using some sort of sealant work?
