Name my slutty cat

[NameMyCat Filter] What to name this stray cat I'm adopting? Famous sluts or single mamas?

Last week I found a stray mama cat and three little kittens in my backyard. This same mama had a litter last year; I was able to catch one kitten and find it a home before mama disappeared. I thought she might have gotten killed, but she was back this year with three new babies. This time I caught all of them. The vet says they're all healthy, so I am keeping mama and finding homes for the babies.

Mama is about 2-3 years old. She has short, charcoal-grey fur with a white patch on her chest and another on her face. She only weighs about 6 pounds, but she's gaining weight fast! (Sorry, I don't have any photos of her yet...I'll work on that.)

Since she's lived most or all of her life on the street and has had at least two litters with neighborhood tomcats, I'd like to name her something that reflects her checkered past. I like 'Fantine' (Cosette's mother from Les Mis), but I'm not sure that works well as a cat name. 'Jezebel' is another possibility. Other ideas?

I call male cats Mr Cat and haven't named a female one yet but Miss Kitty would probably be it, yes.

Best answer: Roxanne

You don't have to sell your body to the night

Moll Flanders would be appropriate too.

I would vote against Jezebel for two reasons: one, I hate that fucking website; and two, the last thing you want is for your kitteh to be eaten by dogs with only her hands and feet left over.

Best answer: Also, congratulations on your new addition. Grey cats are the best cats and you are doing a good thing by adopting a stray and an adult one at that.

I am currently undefeated in the ole MeFi pet naming game. I suggest she sounds like Christie Love to me.

If you're going down the Colette route, her character was called Gigi. Incidentally, when it was first published as a novella, it was published alongside another title - The Cat.

My husband had always wanted a dog named Jezebel, so when we got our puppy that was his first suggestion. We compromised and very happily ended up with Belle.

Best answer: The only name is, of course, Mehitabel:

"well boss
mehitabel the cat
has reappeared in her old
haunts with a
flock of kittens
three of them this time

archy she says to me
yesterday
the life of a female
artist is continually
hampered what in hell
have i done to deserve
all these kittens
i look back on my life
and it seems to me to be
just one damned kitten
after another..."

I second giving her a normal cat name. I like a bawdy joke, but I don't really get this one, since... all cats would do this.

Why, Hester Prynne, of course. I think Hester by itself is an excellent cat name.

But if a Puritan name is not your thing, there's also Ms. Blanche DuBois, both for the checkered past and the fact that your kitty "has always depended on the kindness of strangers."
