You've got mail -- NOT

Help me receive mail in Outlook 2003. It just stopped working.

Outlook isn’t feeling well. A few days ago I lost the ability to do a send/receive on command. F9 didn’t work, and the various options on the tool bars didn’t work. That notwithstanding, Outlook did download from the server upon opening, and every few minutes as I had set it up to do, and I could send mail with no problem. Yesterday, Outlook stopped downloading mail from the server altogether. I can still send mail with no problem, just not receive. I think it tries, because I see the little circle thing next to the arrow pointer, but nothing happens.

Windows 7, Outlook 2003.

My first instinct is a repair install, unless your email provider is having issues or has changed settings.

Have you tried sending yourself a test message? Does that appear?

Response by poster: Test message to myself sits on the server. Messages sent to others are delivered as they should be.

If you aren't getting an error message, it most likely isn't a password problem. Could be a corrupt PST file. A quick and dirty way to check that would be to create a new Outlook profile, use that, and see if you can receive mail. Here are a few links.

If that works, you'll want to access your old email in your new profile. To do that see here (don't select your old file as your default delivery location though, or you might run into the same problem!).

Remove and re-add the email account and/or if you have an antivirus program, disable the email scanning.

Let us know how that goes.
