A Tokyo mansion for February.

What's the best way to arrange a one-month rental for February in Tokyo?

In the past, I've used sites like these to arrange one-month rentals in foreign countries, but the pickings--listings, in other words--appear to be slim in Tokyo.

I'm in Tokyo right now, and I'm okay with Japanese, and I'd like to do a little investigating for a prospective trip in February (of 2013, most likely). Are there any Japanese-language web sites that offer listings of mansions for one-month rentals, or are weekly mansions the only option? Preferably, I'd like to secure a 1~2ldk with no tacked on fees like shikikin or reikin. What are the best locations in the city (or outlying neighborhoods like Shimokitazawa or Kichichoji) for this type of place?

I'd like to do some footwork as well. What type of real estate offices handle weekly or monthly rentals? Do you need to visit a specific office, or do most offices handling chintai-type apartments and mansions have leads to short term rentals?

Annnnd, any additional advice on pursuing this quest, either via the internet or direct visits to offices, would be a big help!

Look for apartments called "Gaijin house". They specialize in temporary rentals to foreigners. I think japan-guide.com has some info on these and you can check their forums for feedback from tenants.

Generally these types of apartments charge a flat rate for rent and utilities and there may be an extra charge for internet access. Any kind of deposit or key money will be specified up front and will probably just be included in the rent.

In my experience most of these kinds of places have someone on staff who is capable of conversational English.

Maybe check Leopalace 21 too.

Gaijin houses are typically shared accommodations, so I would avoid them if I were you. Here are a few places I found with a Google search:

http://www.tokyoapartments.jp/
http://www.tokyorent.com/

Not knowing your budget it's hard to make any specific recommendations, but a 1-2LDK will probably run you 200,000 JPY for the month in much of central Tokyo. By the way, unless you prepay the entire month's rent you may have to make a (refundable) deposit.
