How to get iTunes to recognise new podcast episodes?

iTunes doesn't recognise that there are new podcast episodes available to download.

Pretty much identical to this question from 2010, but I have tried both the suggestions in that thread and they haven't worked. I've also tried deleting the podcast & resubscribing.

The podcast in question is ABC Radio National Politics and, as you can see from that page, the most recent episode was today (6 Sept Australian time). However, both the iTunes Store and iTunes itself list the most recent episode as 26/08/11.

Any suggestions?

Not really. If the iTunes Store says there hasn't been an update, and you're getting your information through them, there's little you can do.

I tried to manually subscribe to it (Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast, paste in the URL for their 'Subscribe to podcast' link), but I got the same issue you describe.

The only other option I can think of is to email them and tell them theirfeed hasn't updated since the 26th - it appears that it's all on their end, and nothing you can do but gently poke.

Yeah, it looks like the problem is with their feed, not with iTunes. You can see this when you look at the podcast RSS feed in your browser. My suggestion would be to gently poke, as suggested by mephron.

If you listen to your podcasts on an iPhone, I can heartily recommend Instacast which eliminates the need for syncing with iTunes entirely, allows in-app podcast subscription and downloads over both Wifi and 3G. I use it constantly and it's fantastic.
