Western Halloween Adventure!

Its roadtrip planning time again! I'm looking for suggestions for quirky, fun, maybe ghosty, campy, interesting places to visit, eat and/or stay somewhere between the Grand Canyon and Phoenix. We were considering maybe somewhere around Flagstaff or Jerome. Especially big bonus points for fabulous places not to miss Halloween weekend in those parts!

We are landing in Vegas on Friday October 28, staying 2 nights there then heading to the Grand Canyon then south to Phoenix. During Halloween weekend! We want to visit a ghost town type place and stay in a hotel or b&b I've read many questions that have suggestions for some of the big places but none specific to Halloween weekend or ghostowns. First time visitors both in our late 30s.

Best answer: Go to an energy vortex (I'm really just trying to entice you to go to Sedona, which might be the most gorgeous place evah)! It's about two hours away from Phoenix and is totally worth it. The vortexes seem totally in line with your ghost hunting ideas and will give you a great party conversation topic.

Best answer: Oh, and it's on the way if you're coming on 40 (which you almost certainly will be!).

Best answer: Crown King is definately on the ghost town list, but I am pretty sure you need a 4wd to visit it. This book has some pretty neat adventures in it if you are into that kind of thing. The touristy/hipster/goofy new age vibe in Sedona kinda bugs me, but a lot of people are really into it, and if you are into that kind of thing you will have a great time. There are a lot of places in Cottonwood-tuzigoot and Dead Horse parks and there is also a railroad that runs up the Verde River to an abandoned railroad stop. Jerome is pretty cool and not nearly so new agey as Sedona. The museum in Jerome is worth visiting and there are tons of old buildings and mines for a very cool halloween vibe and the road over to the Prescott Valley is very fun.

Hotel Monte Vista is in Flagstaff, and we stayed there - the room we were in had window A/C, and I seem to recall trains or street sweepers at some point in the night, but it's a cute little hotel, and haunted!

Best answer: Jerome goes all out for Halloween.

Response by poster: Thanks all, I really wanted to mark them all as best answers. I don't know anything about energy vortex's but it looks like a really scenic area. I guess I didnt realize Sedona and Jerome were so close.
