Help Us Go Somewhere Warm!

We have a week off in late February/early March and will be desperate to get out of cold and gloomy Michigan and go somewhere warm for a little while. What's a good destination for us that won't come with a catastrophically expensive ticket?
We're a couple, no kids, in our 30s, flying out of Detroit. We'd like to go somewhere that will be in the high 60s or 70s at the least. Some lying on the beach is fine, but it would also be nice if there's things to do to mix it up a bit (we're going to Tulum in December and are excited to see the ruins, explore the eco-parks, and go snorkeling. I think we might be bored in Florida).
I'd thought about Buenos Aires but Kayak is showing flights from $1500-$2000, which is waaay out of our price range. I'd thought about Cuba, but the connecting flight from Cancun to Havana alone is $700. Anywhere warm in Europe or North Africa (Greece; Morocco) is over $1000. I'm running out of ideas and would be grateful for your suggestions!

Have you checked fares to Havana from Canada? iirc, much cheaper than Cancun.
Also: Puerto Rico! It's gorgeous, warm and usually affordable.

Maybe Austin or New Orleans. Both are quite lovely at that time of year--low 70's usually.
