What should we do in Greenville, South Carolina?

What should we do, where should we go, and where should we stay on a long weekend in the Greenville, SC area?

My husband and I will be in SC for a wedding near Long Creek on Sunday, October 9. We plan to fly into Greenville or Asheville on Thursday Oct. 6 and fly back Monday Oct. 10. We will have all of Friday and Saturday and much of Sunday free. We will rent a car, so we can drive a bit to get places. We need a place (or places) to stay and idea of what to do. We enjoy hiking, the outdoors, and state parks, and there is a ton of that in the area, but we don't know what specific areas to check out. We also like old time and bluegrass music, so some ideas along those lines would be welcome, too. If you have recommendations for great places to eat, scenic drives, or other nice ways to spend the time, we would love to hear it.

That previous isn't super helpful - ignore all the Greenville, NC.

I went to college in Greenville (Furman Uni - its a beautiful campus!). I'd stay at the Westin or Hyatt downtown but it is a little pricey - but it is a lovely downtown to walk around. For downtown - walk down to Fall Park and go on the bridge and hang out in the park. Get some ice cream at Spill the Beans. Count the Mice on Main. Eat at Soby's ($$$), Sassafras($$$), Smoke on the Water($$), Chicora Alley ($$), Pita House ($). Get coffee at Coffee Underground.

For hiking, Caesar's Head State Park (Symmes Chapel- Pretty Place is beautiful, I've been to a ton of weddings there). Chimney Rock State Park. Table Rock State Park (Lake Jocassee is nice). Jones Gap State Park. Those would be my top 4 (hard to narrow down)! I mean, there's really no shortage of amazing state parks in a nearby drive. Green River is fun to kayak.

Asheville is a whole 'nother list of things to do and see.

Bring me with you.

In Greenville: Seconding Soby's. I also love Nantucket for fancy pants seafood. My folks (who live near there) like Devereaux's and Larkin's too.

Think there is a Westin, Marriott Courtyard, and a Hampton Inn right in the downtown center.

Don't know much about outdoorsy stuff around there, but they did take me to a goat farm once. Cute baby goats, great goat fudge for sale.

Hendersonville NC is a cute town in between Asheville and Greenville (I used to live there, so I'm a little biased).

Pisgah National Forest
has tons of hiking.
