Sunglass lens help

My mom is having trouble finding the right type of lens for sunglasses. She has blephritis and a cataract. The blephritis makes her eye sensitive to sunlight, but she needs bright light to help her see through the cataract. Any suggestions for the type or color of sunglass lens to help her enjoy her summer?

Try a light purple or yellowish lens.

I have cataracts myself (I was born with them). It's kind of a double whammy -- an over-sensitivity to glare and not always enough light to see properly.

Here is what helps me: I switched to dark amber or brown sunglass lenses. That color range blocks blue light and heightens contrast. Additionally, lenses with non-glare coatings help a great deal.

Polarized lenses also help, as they eliminate reflected glare, but they have their drawbacks in certain situations.

I've also used the sunglasses that fit over my regular eyeglasses. Assuming your mom has a prescription already, these aren't as expensive as prescription lenses, and have the added benefit of blocking glare from the sides of the lenses. You can now get these in styles that don't look horrible.

Of the top of my head, Ray Bans has some aviator styles with graduated light brown or gray lenses, but honestly I would presume with her conditions she has a qualified ophthalmologist/optometrist. I would consult them regarding this issue rather than waste the time or money trying out a bunch of sunglasses that won't fit the bill.

You're getting polarized lenses right? My newest sunglasses are polarized and when I wear them I still feel like it is daylight and I get much more light than with just tinted lenses. I also have blepharitis and the light sensitivity that comes along with that, I still get the sensitivity when driving home in the evening staring directly into the Texas sun but other than that they are great.
