Together Wii can do this!

How can I make a fake Wii? Or something creative/funny that plays on the word "Wii"? I want to make one as a present for someone. Explanation inside...

My boyfriend and I have an ongoing joke that I am going to buy him a Wii someday. I really can't afford it, but his birthday is coming up and I'd like to play on this joke when making his present. I'm stumped as to how to actually do it, though. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd be happy to hear suggestions based on a homophone, too.

Thanks, Metafilter!

You could paint a Tic-Tac box with Liquid Paper and write the words "Wee Wii" on it.

There's tons and tons of knock-off or imitation products that use the Wii or Wiimote as a base. I looked up the ones I can remember off of Amazon:

Wii KLICK Candy Dispensers
Wii Controller Tin with Mints

I've seen this kind of stuff at specialty Japanese stores (the ones with large cases of anime figures). I've also seen toys at Toys 'R Us made to imitate more popular (expensive) electronics for parents who want to quiet down their raging 5-year old who demands an iPad. You might have luck at a store like that.

If you want to go cheap and are reasonably crafty, you could do a papercraft Wii scaled up to the right size and made with thick paper. There's a few different papercraft blueprints lying around the net for it.

If you want a real fake Wii, PC emulation is surprisingly advanced. That said, unless you already have a suitably powerful computer, as well as some technical know-how and time, it's probably even more expensive than the real thing.

Put the Wii logo on the side of this. Laughter ensues.

Cover a box with white paper and draw on it with markers or crayons to to make it look like a Wii box. You can paste real wii photos and logos if you can't draw. Make it cute and funny, add fake system specs and games (includes: Zelda Kart, Accounting Mama). Put the real gift inside.

I did something like is once (it was a fake blow doll packaging) and it was a big success.

Cut the shape of a key into a kiwi, as though a key made of fruit had been removed.

Kiwi - key = Wii?

Yeah, I got nothin'.

Response by poster: Ah, such great ideas! I am already making him a cake (chocolate orange with Guinness!), but I'm not sure I'll have the patience to decorate it this year. I think I might go with Blazecock Pileon's suggestion as I think he'd like the pun. :)
