Open Salon alternative filter

Community blogging filter... Need hive input on a replacement for Open Salon.
I'm experimenting with writing life-based stories of one sort or another.. the type I usually tell at cocktail parties and such. As a long time Salon.com subscriber, I elected to try this out on Open Salon.
The site they have designed has some great characteristics, but it is an exercise in ultimate frustration to use, and I sense some angst about it over there. They seem unable to fix their issues, and/or uninterested.
I am familar with a 2010 question on similar lines, but am hoping there is some updated experience here that might help me find a better place for my writing experiments.
