My Web Host ain't got GD, or ImageMagick

My budget web host does not have the GD or ImageMagick libraries installed. How can I get around this? More inside...

It says they are running Red Hat 7.1. Can I find a pre-compiled binary version of either library and stick it on the server? And where would I stick it (access is quite restrictive - httpdocs, httpsdocs, and cgi-bin dirs)? I've emailed support, but they tend not to be very good or quick with this kind of issue.

I recently installed ImageMagick on a hosted site, stuck the precompiled version in the cgi-bin, pointed my CMS at it, and voila. Don't know about GD.

Have you tried asking them to install it. They really should install it anyway for all the other users. I've tried going this route with two hosts and both quickly did the installation for me.

You can install NetPBM without root access (by simply uploading binaries and properly chmoding). That's what Gallery uses.

What are you installing it for? If you're using some CMS or Image Gallery or whatever, there's probably a user forum that can help you out with the installation.

Back in the day my host wouldn't install ImageMagick for me. So I used NetPBM and found this tutorial especially useful. Everything went off without a hitch.
