Help me find this lost New Wave song from the 80s!!

This has been tormenting me for YEARS! It was a song that I heard on the radio several times (KYYX "The Wave", or KJET 1600AM: the greatest radio station in the history of the world). It would have probably been around 1983-1985. It was a female singer, mostly upbeat but kind of spacey, poppy synth, mildly danceable. The lyrics were something to the effect: "It's not scientific, it's like hieroglyphics to me". I can still hear the song in my head after all these years and no amount of Google-fu has given me any leads.

PLEASE make the madness stop!!!

It doesn't match your lyrics, but the first thing that came to my mind was Science Fiction by the Divinyls.

Any chance it's Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles?

Also doesn't match your lyrics, but maybe Mesopotamia by The B-52's?

Best answer: Is this it? The Vels-Hieroglyphics

OP, I have a feeling you will pop in here and say udon is right, that it is The Vels.

That said, I thought you might like The Comateens, too.

So happy to see the often ignored 'Mesopotamia' (B-52s) get a mention. It was produced by David Byrne, and it shows, in the best possible way.
