Avatar builder

I am looking for a good professional Avatar builder that you can use to animate the characters and preferably with an SDK.

The platform for making them doesn't matter but would like the characters to not be tied to something like a console.

I think the reason this doesn't have answers is that people don't understand what it means. You could add more information to help us understand.

Response by poster: Yes that is true... the question is poor.
I am looking for a Development kit like the xbox (XNA) Avatar one but. The tool should allow you to make customizable Avatar that can then be used in a piece of software so an add in to a 3d program but so the models can then be used within a development platform (the avatar tool may define what that too is)

Ideally it would be a similar SDK to the wii or xbox ones but not for a console. I really doubt this exists and though I would have the capability to "roll my own" it would be great to save time and purchase it. The cost isn't a factor I am not looking for a $100 solution but a professional "kit" again this is probably vague so... a thing... that makes people like... animatable models.... that can be customized in an undefined runtime... with clothes option :)

The reason the runtime is undefined is that I can alter the platform to fit the need... which is an ODD option...

I just hoped that there would be a similar thing to modeller or a game engine that would have this as a plugin or I am high.

From an artist* standpoint, Poser is the professional solution, MakeHuman is the freeware solution (Poser is much more comprehensive and has a larger user base which means more clothing and other 3rd party models)... These are more realistic than XBox avatars, so you might need to tweak them considerably if you're going to need a high frame rate on the fly (or do a lot of pre-rendering).

*Artist being asked about character creation software for the non-artist. No offense to anyone who does their own modeling.
