Is there a way to send simple email from mail chimp, with minimal html formatting, that allows the email to show up with the default font in the users email client?

I am learning mailchimp.

I am sending a campaign using the "simple" "Plain text" template. (Which, if I understand, is not literally plain text- it's an html email with very very minimal formatting).

I want to include some simple formatting: Bold, italic, links. But I do not want to specify a font. I want the email to show up in whatever font is the default for for the the recipient's mail client.

Is there a way do do this? I've been banging away and can't find anything.

Response by poster: (Ah I figured this out. There is a way to just paste in your own html email without using their templates. Much easier for me! I feel silly to have wasted a question here, but I was really stymied...)
