Cleaning residue from crystal

Inherited crystal basket has sticky tape residue, how to safely clean?

Been and done the warm soapy water thing, which worked a treat on the years of accumulated dust and general grime, but failed miserably to shift what appears to the dried residue from some sticky tape. As the piece has some sentimental value I do not want to risk damaging it ...

Goo Gone should take care of it, no problem.

I always use lighter fluid to get rid of sticky label residue. It might save you a purchase if you've already got some lying around.

No idea how safe it is on crystal, although I can't imagine it would cause any damage - perhaps test it on an inconspicuous area first.

WD-40 works too.

Nail polish remover also works for this.

Rubbing alcohol is a good place to start, and is easier to clean off than WD-40.

Peanut butter works. Let it sit on there for awhile first.

Bestine rubber cement solvent dissolves almost any adhesive residue. Buy a can at your local art-supply store.

Eucalyptus oil is your friend. Also, it smells nice and has limitless applications around the house.

Response by poster: Peanut butter :0 - now I have heard everything!!

Thanks all, I have some Euc oil, and I am pretty sure I have some goof-off in the garage too, now that I see the name (the peanut butter I have to try ...).
