PlantID filter: what's this growing in my onions?

I got the onions from a nursery, so I'm curious if it's something interesting or a random weed.

Too red on the stems to be basil. I vote weed, get it out.

Weed. Get it out unless you find it more interesting than the onions, in which case: not weed.

Best answer: Looks like it could be young pigweed, a wild amaranth relative.

Best answer: Another vote for pigweed. I just pulled several hundred of these things out from between my baby corn stalks. Left to its own devices, my pigweed tops 5'. Get rid of it with extreme prejudice.

Best answer: You can cook pigweed like spinach, it's very nutritious.

There are red-stemmed basils, but basil would have opposite leaves, these plants have alternate.

Response by poster: Thanks all. Terminated with extreme prejudice.
