What movie did I just see a scene from where a guy uses magic to fly a rocket powered car?

Last week I was on a flight from Kansas City to Baltimore. A row in front of me, someone was watching an interesting looking action film. I only saw a shot where a guy jumps off of a skyscraper, climbs into some kind of car from the 50s, then uses some kind of magic to make the car into rocket powered flying machine to escape whoever was chasing him. Seemed like a dark futuristic setting, a bit of fantasy or sci fi in it.

Special effects made it look recent. The magic powers seemed similar to the guy in I am Number Four, so I just rented that... but... I didn't quite see the scene I remembered.

Probably the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Response by poster: What was that, like five seconds?

Thank you very much, I'll check it out.

I just watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice yesterday, and I don't remember a scene like that. The car is older than the 50s and never flies. Nicolas Cage's character does jump off of a skyscraper at one point but he flies away on an animated statute of an eagle, not a rocket powered car.

Try Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I think the car turned in to a rocket powered car, not a 'flying machine' per se.

Or not...didn't read the original post thoroughly.

Here's a 'making of' featurette of the scene in question. Does it look familiar?

Response by poster: Hmm. Watched the Sorceror's Apprentice. Not quite right.

The car was more of a 50's car, and he jumped off a roof before climbing into it. It seemed like he had to start the "car" before it hit the ground, then it became rocket powered.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is too old, this is a bit more recent.

It may have been more sci fi.

Maybe my memory is betraying me.

Response by poster: Hmm. Wish I could unresolve this.

What airline were you flying?

I mean, if it was an inflight movie, we could look up what the airline has on rotation. If it was a personal device, then we'll have to try something else.

Best answer: My guess, based on only watching the awesome trailers, is that it might be Black Lightning (Chernaya Molniya) a recent Russia movie about a flying Volga: trailer with fan English subs.

Response by poster: Not inflight, personal device.

And yes, it is clearly and most definitely Black Lightning.

Exactly that.
