Here's the chorus: Too "something" too far apart (?)/ somethingsomethingsomething/ The master OR capture OR rapture of the heart... That last part I imagine would be the title of the song. But yeah. That's all I got. Sorry I can't hum it for you. More details inside.

I'm guessing it's mid-70s to late 70s. R&B. The melody is picked out in single notes on a keyboard. Mid-tempo. Sang by a guy. It's been stuck in my head since I woke up. I need it out of my head and into my itunes.

Google hasn't helped with the lyrics I mentioned.

Figured it was worth a shot. Thanks in advance.

Best answer: It doesn't work every time, but if you have a good idea how the melody went and stuff and just aren't sure of the words, have you tried Song Tapper?

(A lovely and underappreciated song, btw.)

Response by poster: CAPTAIN OF HER HEART. God. Yes. That's it.

And that guy really wasn't how I pictured the singer. At all.

Never tried Song Tapper (or heard of it), Jinkeez. Will next time. Thanks, everyone!

The piano riff of "Captain of Her Heart" always reminds me of Kool & The Gang's "Too Hot," although I've never known why. If your mind works the same way as mine in terms of mashing up songs, that might help explain why you were thinking late 70s (spring 1980) R&B. Or not.
