Disable photo tagging by friends?

How do I turn off the ability of others to tag photos of me on Facebook? All I see on Google is info on how to change the setting for previous iterations of Facebook's "privacy settings".

Account ->
Privacy Settings ->
Click Custom, then Customize Settings
Photos and video's you're tagged in, edit settings, then you can set only you can view photos or video's that you are tagged in...

As far as I know you can't turn it off, you just have to untag yourself from them and then no-one will be able to re-tag you. Even if you don't normally check facebook very often, if you're concerned about this kind of thing, it's probably worth setting up your account to send you an email whenever anyone tags you in a photo, so that you can then go and get rid of it.

I don't think you can do that any more, as I tried to figure out how to do it recently. The best you can do is turn off the ability for anyone to see the "Photos of [you]" link on your profile, and then manually untag pictures when people tag you.

Go to privacy settings-->customize settings-->things others share-->photos and videos you're tagged in-->customize-->only me.

I read the FB setting the same way that EOI does. Here is the text from the security page -

The new Facebook profile puts a row of recently tagged photos of you at the top of your profile. Please note that your privacy settings have not changed. Only people you've allowed to view photos you're tagged in will see these photos on your profile.

So, this procedure (Go to privacy settings-->customize settings-->things others share-->photos and videos you're tagged in-->customize-->only me) just keeps tagged photos from showing up in your profile. Other than that, I think you have to manually untag photos and there isn't a way to keep people from tagging you or having others see these tags with a setting through FB security.

also, you can set up an alert in account settings to let you know when you've been tagged.

It's also pretty key to use the feature in the privacy settings that lets you see your profile as specific other people do. You often see a completely different view of stuff about yourself.

There is nothing you can do to stop this. Whether your friends are tagging a photo of you or your enemies are putting your name on a photo of a horse's hind end, you can't do anything about it. The people running Facebook don't care about your privacy.

On the other hand, I reconnected with some friends from elementary school thanks to an old classmate who tagged me in a group photo from 3rd grade. So it isn't all bad.
